Everything has changed and continues to change for film distribution, especially for independent and emerging creators.
Instead of playing by the rules of outdated systems that have largely been abandoned, or are waiting for whatever new systems will emerge, we’re hitting the road!
combining old methods with new technologies, We’ll explore and map pathways for non-dependent film distribution, Meet with fellow indie & Non-Dē Filmmakers across the country, and highlight the indie theaters, art houses, micro-cinemas, and film Collectives Supporting the movement and Cinema Culture.
Purpose & Goals
Data Collection & Documentation: We’ll be filming the journey and sharing what we learn as we go: estimates vs actual costs, audience and venue stats, time spent, and interesting sights along the way.Knowledge & Skill Sharing: Conduct Workshops & Highlight Local Filmmakers for Screenings & Conversations.Connect & Support: Promote Indie Theaters, Community Spaces, Micro-Cinemas, and the folks who run them.Community Building: Share Work & Build Awareness for Future Projects.
The Details
WHAT: We are headed on a good old-fashioned American Road Trip screening films and sharing our workshop at independent theaters, community centers, and 3rd spaces, exploring (and sharing in detail) what goes into a do-it-yourself/do-it-together in-person screening tour.WHERE: Coast-to-coast! From Chicago to California and the West Coast and back, then, from Chicago to Vermont and the East Coast and back.WHY: Indie Filmmakers work outside the system to develop, finance, and produce their projects, but most don’t approach distribution with the same Indie or NonDē spirit – at least not openly or transparently. We want to learn, share, and build community with like-minded filmmakers dedicated to making films and the pathways to sharing those films accessible to fellow creators.WHEN: We start in early June 2026. We will finish this first tour in August 2026.
Follow the Journey! Or, better yet, be a part of it!
