Partners in life and filmmaking for more than a decade, Miguel Silveira and Missy Hernandez launched Neither Nor Studios, where they focus on the development of original IP, filmmaking, and storytelling education, and exploring new pathways to support, sustain, and elevate Independent and NonDē (Non-Dependent) filmmakers.

Missy Hernandez

Missy Hernandez is an award-winning independent filmmaker and screenwriter whose scripts center on Latiné experiences in the US and Caribbean. Her work is intersectional, feminist, often political, and unapologetically fantastical. Her feature script, I Don’t Dream In Spanish Anymore, is the winner of the 2025 Nashville Film Festival’s Screenplay Competition for Best Horror Feature Script, the Winner of the 2024 Nantucket Film Festival's Tony Cox Screenplay Competition, and the Winner of the 2024 Athena List. Missy was a Writer and Co-Producer of American Thief (Film Movement), the co-writer and producer of The Last Election and Other Love Stories, and the Writer’s Assistant and Associate Producer for season one of the HBO/A24 series Random Acts of Flyness. Missy graduated from Columbia University in New York with a BA in Cinema Studies and an MFA in Screenwriting. She is an Associate Professor in the School of Film and Television at Columbia College Chicago.

Miguel Silveira

Miguel Silveira is a Brazilian-American Screenwriter, Director, Producer, and Assistant Professor in the School of Communication at Loyola University Chicago. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Miguel studied filmmaking at Columbia College Chicago and later received an M.F.A. in Directing from Columbia University in New York City. He has taught at the International School of Film and Television (EICTV) in Cuba, Columbia College Chicago, Columbia University, School of Creative and Performing Arts, and from his award-winning short films Namibia, Brasil, Rooftop Wars, and Devil’s Work to his recent features American Thief and The Last Election and Other Love Stories, Miguel’s work celebrates topics related to human dignity and development. Miguel’s work has received support from the Sloan Foundation, the Jerome Foundation, the Illinois Arts Council, the DGA, Cine Qua Non, Chicago DCASE, and NALIP.
